N20 Oil change thread

Starting DIY oil change thread. N20 specific because that's what I have. The goals are - to help DIYers with the procedure and find part sources cheaper than dealer's.

Well, since I have only 400 miles on the car it is too early for the first oil change. Will be doing it in a month or too. With pics. Check later.

However stopped today at the dealership and got an oil filter. BMW p/n 11427566327. Inside there is a filter manufactured by Mann. P/n HU816. Above mentioned BMW p/n is the new one. Some website mention 11427541827 that is supposedly obsolete. Two o-rings and crash washer included too. See pictures below.

Checked Amazon. And found Mann HU816 X filter. It appears to be the same filter. However cannot confirm at the moment. The picture actually shows the filter with HU816 on the side. No "X". Going to order it soon. Most likely it is the same. For half the price.

Waiting 15k miles for the first oil change is not for me.

There seems to be another N20 oil filter BMW part number 11 42 7 634 292 and reads HU8002 on the top.

You can get oil filters AND oil very cheap here:
http://www.partsvp.com/products/SET-...%252d292).html
http://www.partsvp.com/products/SET-...52d327%29.html

The website might look a little shady, but I have ordered from them twice and they are actually a BMW dealership.

Pretty odd, but it looks like many different part numbers work in our N20 engines. For instance, http://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/p...427566327.html

On RealOEM it shows:

11427634292 for N20 up to 1/2012
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=11&fg=30&hl=6

and

11427566327 for N20 from 1/2012
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=11&fg=30&hl=7

Damn, I wonder if they are interchangeable or not...
