X1 vs. Audi Q3
I hear that Audi Q3 is coming to US sometime in 2013. Has anyone researched how does X1 compare to Q3? It sounds like Q3 is targeted to compete against X1.
Thanks! |

I had been waiting for Q3, but got tired of Audi's neverending delays. From an appearance standpoint, I find the Q3 to be far better looking.
The turbo I-5 RS concept ... |

Looks decent enough, I'm sure plenty of people will buy them. I have nothing against Audi and have looked at the A3 and A4 on various occasions. Personally I don't like Audi's big-mouth front grill and the interiors look very busy to me.
Still, I'd actually PREFER that the X1 had a real competitor (not just Tiguans and Subarus) as it will keep BMW on their toes. |

I hear you re the change to a front wheel drive platform, but it's not much different then Audi and VW sharing platforms. All about the bottom line and the fact that many buyers will not care

I feel like people are naming X3 competitors. Evoque, Infiniti EX and the Q3 will be the only true competitors IMO. Unless you are including Ford Escapes, Kias, Hyundais, Subarus and Mazdas.
Personally I like the looks of the Evoque and Q3 better than the X3. Evoque TCO is too high and we can't wait on Q3. The EX is so cramped for space its laughable.

I've been keeping an on the Q3. The date for it to come to the US is all over, everything from late 2013 to 2015. There's a chance next week at the auto show a real announcement could be made.
As for my thoughts on the styling, I don't like it. The front is a bit too vulgar for an Audi imo, it looks like a wanna-be rather than just being. My wife had an A3 that she loved and I just can't come up with how a Q3 which is mainly a lifted A3 would be a better car than an all-road. Maybe the Q3 will compete with the Juke, which I can't stand the styling of, and some against the X1 but I think the X1 has the edge until BMW castrates it for the countryman chasis swap, then the X1 and Q3 will be more comparable imo. And yes, I agree with the fact that Audi's are numb cars but for wives that don't like to feel tire grip in their hands Audi's are a pretty good choice. |

I don't know what it is about Ford headrests, but in every SUV rental I get for work trips that ends up being a Ford, I end up removing them from the driver's seat. Some were angled too much and all obstructed my FOV when doing DS shoulder checks. They've upped their game but there is still enough I don't like.

The RS Q3 is stupid considering the x1 35i already has identical 0-60 times, plus true real wheel biased awd and better steering feel. If it takes Audi an RS model just to be competitive with a standard trim x1 35i, i don't even want to know the ass whipping that a x1 M would throw down on the Audi.

As far as a standard Q3 goes, I would be shocked if they put the Q5 V6"T" in it. More likely it will be a horizontally mounted 2.0TFSI ala the A3 Quattro and this means Haldex FWD bias as well. If they're smart they'll do the Q5 longitudinal 2.0TFSI and give it true Quattro but most consumers have no idea what the difference is so why bother?
If a Q3 RS is the I-5 turbo, it will be crappy Haldex with FWD bias and BMW hydraulic steering is guaranteed to be better than Audi. Power on the Audi would be better though. Anyway, I think assumptions are fairly safe based on what Audi has done in the past. No matter though a Q3 RS won't be available in states. Has standard Q3 even been confirmed for the U.S. yet? |

BTW, what's up with the steering wheel pointed to the moon in those photos? I like VW/Audi, but some of their driver positioning on SUV/CUVs is just stupid.
