I just switched from a blackberry to a first time iPhone (5) user and I noticed that the iPhone 5 is not very compatible with my car (2013 X1)- I can sync it via Bluetooth but unlike with my previous blackberry, I cannot receive text or e-mails on the car. It has very limited use, might be silly question but I would really appreciate any advice on how to have my phone fully functional with my new car! I Thank you for your help!

Once your device is paired, go on your iPhone to Settings then Bluetooth. Tap the arrow next to your BMW pairing. You then have options for what you want the phone to sync with the car. The key is to turn on "Show Notifications" (its usual default is off). Once on, new messages will be available in the Office menu of iDrive.

As far as I know, you can't - not fully anyhow. BMW chose to support specific phones from specific vendors instead of open protocols, which means you only get some functionality with those specific (and mostly outdated) phones. AFAICT, the latest iDrive firmware update has limited iPhone 5 support, but not all you had with the Blackberry.

Thank you for your help, I have tried show notifications with no success. I have gone to the dealership and they notified me apple is coming out in June with the solution (snap in cord or dock that is already released for iPhone 4)- I am assuming that the BMW App for the iPhone 5 that syncs with the X1 won't work until then either?

Make sure you have the latest software for the idrive....upd01006.bin
and reconnect to your phone. http://www.bmw.com/_common/shared/ow...n/UPD01006.bin this cured it for me. My settings on my phone are: BT BMW setting: Show Notifications Messages>notification center on>banners>badge app icon ON> show preview OFF Same with email settings |

Correct, we don't have Apps, but Office works fine.

In my 2013 X1 my "office" does not properly function either, I do not have BMW apps, is there anyone to make my iPhone 5/car compatible? (I am only able to make calls through Bluetooth and listen to music but the "active calls" option on the Idrive is grayed out and I am unable to select) I have gone to the dealership with no success! Much appreciated! Thank you again for everyone's assistance!

Having the ability to read text and email in your car has got to be the ultimate non-feature. While we are at it, why would you want to watch a DVD on your nav screen? Why would you want to post a FB update, or tweet, from iDrive? The entire BMW Apps/ConnectedDrive/Whatever seems like a massive mis-allocation of money and effort to me. How about they put some lenses on the reading lights, or some nicer plastic on the doors and dash, or sound lining under the hood, or a nice retractable cargo cover, or any of the dozens of other "built to a budget" things that are all over the X1? |

![]() But seriously, I agree completely. Hard to believe the same driving focused Germans that don't want me to have decent cup holders are backing this facebook/twitter nonsense. |

Before I start a new thread I thought I'd ask here. Can anyone get the streaming audio to work over their iPhone 5?? Mine car recognized my phone just fine. But it just is greyed out under the audio menu when I try to pick the phone for streaming from the bluetooth. Boo. The dealer said it was because it was a 5 and a fix should be coming? Anyone?
