Heads up display?
Does the X1 have the Heads Up display feature? Or is this only a feature on certain models? I can't seem to find the answer to this question. Sorry if this has been asked already but I'm just curious.

No, the X1 is still based on the old "e" series chassis and has older technology than the "f" series cars like the X3, 3er and 5er. The X5 is the next model to make the switchover and the X1 is still a few years away from moving chassis and will likely be based on the next Mini Countryman and be fwd (boo!).

X3 has HUD as well... But I've been looking into MobileEye and other technology to get lane departure and rear end collision detection and during that search I learned about ionroad app that does the same thing (not as well I'm guessing as it's $5 vs $750) but it does show your speed.
You could also look into the app WAZE that does do GPS speed (fairly decent accuracy) but also does traffic flow notices, police radar/lidar locations, accident and other nifty stuff too. I bought two cheap mounts (windsheild and dash I'm still comparing) phone mounts from flee-bay and use ionroad and WAZE every time I get into the car and I think it works quite well as a HUD replacement for the cost (Free or $5). |

I went onto BMWUSA and built many of the platforms, 3, 5, 6, 7 and it only appears as a $1300 convenience option for the X3, X5, and 6's. It looks like part of the Tech package for the 3's and the Executive package for the 5's, and part of the Sound System package for the 7's.

Sometimes I wish we could get more stuff as stand alone options. Similar to how I feel about cable TV.....

In the olden days, you could order all features al a carte (provided they were available on that model). None of the LINE BS where you can't get certain colors with certain lines or certain features with or without certain packages. It must speed ip production now as my custom ordered 2000 323i took over 3 months for delivery to the dealer.
