Wanderitis
I've noticed that my X1 seems to require frequent but minute corrections to stay centered in its lane.
Is this the norm, or do I have something else going on...alignment, etc? Moon |

My car tracks straight as an arrow. How bad is the road crown where you're driving?

I have zero issues with wanderitis on my 2014 X1. How many miles are on your X1 tires? Perhaps they are wearing poorly?

There's a fair crown on the roads here in FL, where we are at the moment. I haven't passed my hand over the tread lately; perhaps I should.
What it feels like is driving in a crosswind, which may indeed be the case. Moon |

I've experienced the same thing and had BMW check my alignment and it was dead on. I think it's normal. Like Twix suggested, maybe it is the road crown or cross winds.

Okay, passed my hand over the tires this AM; there is a slight feather on the inside edge; oddly enough, it is on the inside edge of all four, tho it seems to be a bit more pronounced on the fronts.
There are 3K miles on the tires. I may well rotate the tires when we get home; beyond the current question, any counsel on what rotation pattern to follow? Thnx, Moon |

i'm always correcting the steering, either over or under that would the only grip i have about the car. but on the other hand it makes for a quick responds in traffic, really responsive. light to the touch. this one is take the good with the bad.. |

It could be the run-flat tires. I've noticed that on certain road surfaces, they tend to wander a bit and that results in that crosswind feeling you mentioned. I think it's the combination of an all season tire with a hard sidewall -- it has the stiffness of a summer performance tire but without the stickiness.

Those runflat tires could be the problem.
Also the road itself (heavy traffic lowers the road). The X1 feels 'jumpy' times to times, I don't have sport suspension, I do have the 18" rims with runflats, and yes, it seeks a little bit her road but on a good road straight is straight, even when not touching the steering wheel. So, try it on a good road, if you're still not sure, ask BMW dealer to drive it. |

I think it is more a function of feedback from the hydraulic steering. My car does not move around on uneven pavement, but the steering does let you know the road is not perfect.

My X1 s28i MSport feels really good on the road, but at speeds above 60 mph it sways with the wind.
On my Euro delivery I was following fast cars at 120 mph on Autobahn, and with wind it would change lanes for me. The rear tires seem bouncy also, maybe because of run flats. Car is still a more fun drive than my Mazda RX8 ( both electric steering). I believe when I get non runflat performance tires, most of the sway will go away. |

I remember my VW Camperbus going around Lake Champlain; it took 90* of lock to go straight ahead. At least nothing in that league.
Just an odd feeling. Thanks for the comebacks, Moon |

When was the last time you checked your tire pressure?
