To get email working, you need to change the setting in notification on your phone every time you connect to the car. Bit of a pain but it still the only way to get email working

Click round button once to take you off email. Double click round button fast to reveal a single row of icons. Scroll left or right to find email icon. Lightly touch email icon until red minus sign appears. Touch red minus sign on email icon Single click round menu button to get out of this mode. Click email icon and open inbox. You can still use other iPhone functions after completing this step. This sounds like a lot of steps, but it is not. You can do this operation very fast. Basically, this is the same as sending a kill -15 to your email process. |

What I don't get is why BMW made the system using proprietary APIs in the first place, instead of open standards, which would get synchronization working with any phone, pda or PC, including future ones.
Tying it to specific manufacturers and models only ensures that it will become obsolete. Same with the Twitter and Facebook link-in, instead of standards like RSS that would continue to be useful after Twitter and Facebook are as much memories as LiveJournal and MySpace. |

Follow the instructions. Use a flash drive with NOTHING else on it. Then put it in the USB port and under settings go to software update. |

Actually, I did the update using a flashdrive with lots of files and folders. I think you only have to put the file in the root folder (no sub folders).

Awesome, thanks!!! It worked like a charm.
Spoke to the dealer, they said that the car came with the latest software because it was just manufactured last month. He also said they would charge me if I wanted the software updated outside of the normal service times. Wrong on both counts. The car did not have the latest software and there was no need to pay any service fee to update it thanks to this thread. |
