OEM Exhaust Tips?

It appears that the 35i M Sports have black chrome exhaust tips standard in the US. Is this the only model with black chrome? What is standard for the other lines?

Please help me correct this list

X-line: chrome
Sport-line: black (chrome?)
28i M Sport: chrome (no black)?
no line: ???

edit - corrected list:

35i: black chrome
Sport-line: black chrome
All others: brushed aluminum satin

I think all 35i models have the black chrome tips and the 28i Sport and M Sport models do too, so that means the 28i no-line and X-Line have regular chrome tips.

I think BMW officially terms the Xline as having satin or matte-finished chrome finishers. Kinda nice when compared to the usual shiny stuff, actually. Until I get tired of it and wished I had the black chrome.

According to RealOEM, the 35i tip and the 28i Sport-line tip have different part numbers (must be sized a little differently). If you plan to retrofit I believe you must order two as they are not sold as a pair and must be welded (visit a muffler shop).

All 35i: black chrome - 18307559999
Sport-line 28i: black chrome - 18307635633
All others: brushed aluminum satin - 18307618683

See above. All 35i have black chrome, all M Sports do not.

So the definitive answer appears to be that all 35i's have black chrome tips, the 28i Sport line also has black chrome tips (of a different size) and the other 28i's, No-Line, X-Line and M Sport have brushed stainless tips.

Thanks all for the input, that's much more complicated than the E82's which just stuck to silver on the 128i and black on the 135i. Except I suppose the 1M Coupe got silver tips too, but that's a different beast.

I'm planning to retrofit the black chrome tips. I'm not happy with the brushed satin tips, which are already stained with exhaust soot after 900 miles. This is a Mineral Grey x28i M Sport (car needs to be washed...we just had rain).

From experience, the black ones aren't much easier to maintain. Why not get a quality metal polish like Wenol and keep the stock tips?

I'm keeping the stock tips on our 128i (Montego Blue), but I just think the black chrome tips are a better match for Mineral Grey.

I wonder how the chrome M tips perform. The stainless/burnt tip on my S2000 exhaust still looks like new with absolutely no maintenance (the pics are my exhaust but not my car...I purchased the demo exhaust): http://www.gotuning.com/product_info...oducts_id=1283

Have been looking for compatable Chrome to go over my existing aluminum oval shaped exhaust on Sdrive 20d. Might have to get exhaust place to cut pipe at back muffler and replace with chrome piece. Any suggestions.

Can you post a pic of your oval tip?

Thanks for interest. As an old guy heading towards 70, I am not to good with computers but will ask my 16 yr. old son to see if he can. I,m even looking at other brand cars to see if they have slide over chrome tips on their accessories. Might get lucky or become really long project.

I'm going to just stick with the satin tips, since the exhaust is so visible from the back.
