Heated Steering wheel on my X1 problem
Picked it up yesterday and tried the heated steering wheel this morning. imagine dividing the wheel into 4 equal section 12-3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12. the 9-12 & the 12-3 heated up quickly and evenly while the 3-6 took longer and heated up to maybe 60% of the top 2 sections while the 6-9 section heated up to only 30% of the top 2 sections. Anyone else experience this. I'm afraid the dealer will tell me that they have to replace the entire steering wheel to corrct this. Any info based on your experience with the heated steering wheel?

I believe that's how electric resistance wiring works; it's not even. Could also be due to varying material wrapped around the wiring. I'm just happy it's warm.

Why you are afraid the dealer will tell you that they have to replace the entire steering wheel to corrct it? My biggest problem is I can not see the heated switch. It hidden behind the steering wheel. My X5 and 330i both are located at the front of the steering wheel.

I agree about the switch being hidden. The reason I say I'm afraid to have the dealer change the wheel is because they have been so incompetent with handling of the entire purchase transaction I dread to think how their repair department is!

Heated Steering Wheel
I am having the same issue; however, if I am on a long trip the top half of my wheel stops heating but the bottom half stays on. I wonder if this is some sort of safety feature, so the wheel at 10 and 2 touch points will not get too hot to the touch.
I have to take it in anyway because my headlight washers don't work and there's a greasy film oozing from the pivot of the rear window wiper. |

Mine heats more on the 10 / 2 o clock position, which is where I hold the steering wheel, so this is good.
Also heats more on 5 and 7 o clock - again positions I might grip regularly. The rest heats, but less so. I believe it DOES actively regulate the temperature and I suspect its tied to a number of sensors as it varies depending on external temps and interior too. Sometimes, but only very rarely it can be too warm/too cold - but usually just right and one of my favourite features in the car as I suffer badly from cold hands. |

Check the temps with a thermometer. If there is significant temp differential, say +- 5, I'd say you have an issue. But there will always be a temperature difference in resistance heating.
