Really? You want to lug a 4cyl around at less than 1000 RPM? a decent V8 will tolerate that pretty well (sometimes), but these engines are rough enough at 100-1300 as to not seem "happy" at that speed.
I guess if you want to be able to do stuff like that, you need a real manual trans.
