I've never had it upshift on its own. But then I've never pushed it to redline either. I think I'd be okay with that, though, since I don't really push it and it definitely can prevent damage. But on the low end, I'm not convinced. Mine seems to downshift right at 1000 rpm, which seems a little high for a 'safety'. I guess I just need to learn to downshift a little earlier.
