I set in a X1 xDrive28i last Saturday, and also in a 2012 new model (F30) 328i. X1 rear seat space is a little better than the old (E90) 328i, but definitely smaller than F30. I am 5'10". After setting the driver seat conformably, I can fit in behind the driver. If I sit straightly, my knees will not hit driver seat. But, for a long drive, if I lie down, there is not room to stretch my legs. But, since X1 is a small SUV, it is easier to carry stuff than F30. That is, in terms of utility, it is better than F30. Also, X1 interior luxury is on par with E90, but a half level lower than F30. I found out that X1 is one of the cheapest cars on BMW dealer parking lot. If you want 2012 328i (F30), you need to prepare for $3000-$4000 more for the similarly equipped.
