The X5 isn't a big SUV. Compared to my Mountaineer, which I'd call a standard size SUV, it's small. And compared to something like a Suburban, Navigator L or Escalade ESV, it's downright tiny.
It started out as a crossover E53, and has grown into a small SUV, with an optional third row seat for children making it a soccer-mom / golfer car.
