- The software release for the transmission control unit (TCU) contains error. If a fault in the transmission would occur, the TCU cannot illuminate the engine light, this is required per federal emission regulations.
BMW has offer to retrofit or update the TRU for Free of Charge.
This would applied to Canadian Spec X1 2.8i Xdrive.

Got letter yesterday. apponitment was made on Nov.30. they are busy for snow tires.
