I was up at Lake Tahoe a year ago with 6feet of snow. Every second vehicle was a 4x4 of sorts. Also saw quite a few on the beach north of San Diego. I guess it depends what you use it for. Here it's mainly for very wet conditions, AWD is safer in it, with a wee bit of snow driving as well.
