This "feature" is not unique to BMW. All german manufacturers don't put MPH on their speedometers. You basically have to guestimate the speed you're going. I have a few speeds that I know for sure what they are (119 kph is 72 mph, as confirmed by my radar detector). Sure it's a pain in the a** but really, the US is one of the only countries in the world that doesn't use the metric system so really in my mind it's their fault. Can't blame BMW for the US's mistake. I'm originally from Winnipeg and I live in the US now so I can tell you how frustrating it can be, but it also gives you an amount of deniability if you're pulled over, simply "but officer my speedometer doesn't have mph and I have to guestimate my speed."
