I mean, you are in manual mode afterall. So it annoys you that you actual have to...you know...manually shift it?
I guess that's the answer then...
It only downshifts through the other gears to prevent you from stalling (you should be downshifting it yourself, you're in manual mode). The car is perfectly capable of being slowed and fully stopping, as well as pulling away in second, so there's no reason to make the shift to first. The other downshifts are out of necessity.
