How many vehicles have full size spares? Almost none, right? You're still stuck in the tire shop because you're normally on a wafer donut tire that isn't supposed to be driven over 50mph. Personally, I ditched the crappy Goodyear run flats and bought the Continental ContiComfortKit for temporary fixes of non-runflat tires.

Did you think about just buying a full size spare for long trips and throwing it in the back? If you're worried, that's by far the best way to go.
