The curves are probably why there are so many accidents. It's a beautiful stretch of road, though - I've driven a few times from Seattle to Kelowna back in the days before passports, and the BC rockies are just amazing.
But yeah, rest your foot on the brake all the way down to the valley, and you'll suddenly go down a lot faster than you intended
