Yeah, the only reason why the X1 is longer in length than the Countryman is because of the large front hood the X1 has in order to fit the V6 engine. The new model will most likely go to a 4-cylinder turbo only lineup, and so they can cut down the large front end. The rest of the car is similar in size, in terms of the interior space.

And yes, I'm sure it will be a hoot to drive. The Mercedes GLA45 AMG is also front wheel drive biased and also has electric steering, and all reviews I have read are that it is an awesome car to drive. So yes, it can be done.
