The cheapest 3 series in the US is $36500 MSRP for the 328i Sedan.

Of course, few will buy these base models without adding expensive "line" items and extras.

Also, here in the US we get neither the cheaper/smaller gasoline engines, nor the more expensive (but cheaper to drive) diesel engines. So if comparing, make sure you don't compare with models we don't get
The x1 35i M Sport is actually priced above the 1 series when you option it out with equivalent specs.

The MSRP on my X1 is just under $50k. I could get a loaded 135is for that.
