That was just too bad. But did it work after you restarted the iPod or does it refuse to mount permanently? My 80GB classic (with 12 GB of music) also refused to connect the other day, the iPod screen went completely black and I had to rebuild all the software and data from iTunes for it to work again. So there seems to be no "fool proof" options here.
