I think value is subjective, but there are two issues with X1 that affect the perceived value.

First issue is the quality of plastics in lower dash. Some of them are brittle and feel cheap for a 45k car (for example glove box door).

The other issue is wind noise. I feel there is less sound deadening than a 3 series, particularly in the roof area.

Overall I think it makes more sense to keep the purchase price (not msrp) below 40k. I think if you are eligible for some discounts you can buy a loaded xDrive28i for around that price.
