I checked today and can confirm the Hi-Fi option which is the 2nd level (Base>Hi-Fi>HK) has an amp in the trunk that looks just like the one posted by improvius in addition to tweeters in the front. No idea if the mids are any different from the base or not. With the base turned up via the iDrive I find the sound to be pretty good with a decent amount of base. This is all via music on a USB stick.
