This actually makes a little sense if you followed the roll out of the F30. Currently:
328i - 23/34 - manual ; 23/33 - auto
335i - 20/30 - manual ; 23/33 - auto
Which if you think about the auto mileage figures, seems totally contrived. The EPA did a last minute down grade of the 328i automatic right before it was released, if I recall, the gap was nearly equal to what you see on the 335i between manual and automatic, so roughly 26/36 for the auto. Which I still believe is the realistic rating for an auto F30. So the E84 matching the auto 335i and 328i makes sense, if you understand the EPA played a little monkey business with the 328i auto ratings.
