Just throwing this out there - could the delay have more to do with possible changes in the powertrain department scheduled for September? Given the timing of this news vs. the Z4 turbo 4 news, it could be that they are planning to replace the I6 in the X1 28i with the new turbo 4 in September and do not want to bother certifying the I6 in this vehicle for just a few months of production.
Also, I recall spy shots of what some suspected was an X1 35i, but pehaps this was not a turbo 6 at all. Perhaps it was an X1 with the new turbo 4 under the hood.
Anyway, just some speculation for folks to chew on.

The market for this is huge in the US. The new X3 is larger now and does not size well against the many "cute ute" competitors here in the US. Pricing will probably start at 30k, and I believe sales of this vehicle will be very brisk indeed.
