I personally wouldn't run a donut on an AWD vehicle, and these I understand are especially sensitive to it.
Trouble is, we don't have a ton of cargo space to spare either. Perhaps this is why the run-flats seemed to the engineers at BMW like a reasonable solution despite the harsh ride, exorbitant cost, etc.
I solved it by throwing on a roof rack and strapping a full size spare wheel to it. I just keep that in the tire rotation to keep the sizes the same. Added bonus: it's really easy to find in a parking lot.
