I'm not sure where you found your data, but I encourage you to double check your numbers. BMW lists the X1's cargo capacity at 14.8 cu ft, which is well shy of the Impreza's capacity, and a fraction of the 34+ cu ft the Outback's offers. There is simply no denying the packaging advantages of FWD platforms.
