On the contrary, I don't think it is at all unlikely that the US will get the turbo 4 at this point. BMW has said publicly that they are bringing 4 cylinder engines to the US in a number of new vehicles.

Plus, it is mentioned in the (admittedly still speculative) article I posted a link to above that the X1 will be the first BMW to receive this engine, later this year. This coincides nicely with the expected new US release date this fall. I suspect that both the 25i and 28i that SCOTT mentions above will be powered by 4 cylinder turbo charged engines - in two different outputs, of course.
