So I just returned from my ski trip. This time it was slightly closer NH than VT, but still all highway. This time:
  • I drove the whole trip in default Comfort mode.
  • I didn't look at the mpg needle once

It was freeing. I actually drove my car. It actually responded when I stepped on the gas pedal (unlike eco mode).

It got 21.7 mpg. Whereas I got 21.9 in eco-mode.

I decided this was somewhat good news, in that at least I can drive the car without eco mode and not pay even more of a mpg penalty.

However every time I see someone else's trip computer picture, I feel that every X1 is getting better mileage than mine. Argh!! Not happy.
