The high school I went to prioritized state standardize testing, and excelled at it consistently earning high marks. Unfortunately these standardized tests did not reflect the real world needs of college and work force, and my peers and I paid the price for that.
CAFE and the EPA roller tests are the auto industry's equivalent to Texas's TEAMS, TAAS, TAKS, and STAAR. They do not reflect real world driving and the discrepancy will likely grow in the near future as companies strive to please CAFE. You can see similar complaints from drivers of hybrids and many other cars claiming high MPG.
