There is no 3.8. There is no 2.8 either.

35i = 3.0 l
As for comparing to a TDI, that's a whole different kettle of fish. See the second paragraph of
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Throttle_response for some explanation of why it can differ so much, and diesels being more responsive.
