Glad you've been able to make it work.

When you stack two bikes in the car, do you also have any room left in the car for luggage or overnight bags or grocery bags? Imagine the case of heading for a long weekend to hotel or cabin with the bikes. Is there enough room, does that work too?

Do the bags go on top of the bikes, or the reverse?

The nice thing with bikes being able to stand up, is that the chain always goes on the right, so no cargo ever gets close to touching the black greasy chain.

So tonight's trip in the Golf TDI to our place on Cape Cod featured two bikes standing up, but also room for a week's luggage and cycling clothes, stopping midway at grocery store, getting a week's worth of groceries, multiple laptop bags, my large tool bag with drills, a prior stop for 2 large boxes of NH Liquor store libations, the big red cooler of food from home, etc. IE - the usual stuff I'm sure most everyone carries for a week vacation away.

How much of this would fit with two bikes laying down? Some? None? All?
