Here is my take on spares ... Get a real one not a mini.

The two times we have had a flat has been over a weekend when it was not possible to get a replacement tire. In both cases the tire could not be repaired. With a real spare we could drive 500+ miles home. Yeah a full sized spare is a PITA in that it takes up room in the back but we only toss it in when on trips.
