I guess what I am confused about is why the steering wheel simply can't be retrofitted after the fact. I know there are a number of websites that will sell you the steering wheel and I can't imagine there being anything beyond a simple software update required to get the paddles working.

In no way would I wait an extra 3 months for a new car to be ordered. I would simply insist that this was the dealer's and BMW's mistake which they will fix by covering the cost to retrofit the steering wheel.
