I hear you 03SGM3. My wife wants a compact SUV to replace her 335i and between this and the MINI Countryman not being available yet, there are not really any options. What's more, the other two possibilities - the Audi Q3 and the Ford Kuga are also not arriving until next year at the earliest either.

I think there are two big reasons they have pushed it off so far for the US. First, they want to launch the new X3 here first since they wish to position it as the volume leader here for the SAV lineup (it has more margin than the X1, I'm sure). And secondly, they want to launch the X1 here with the new turbo 4 (quite possibly as the only engine offered, IMHO), and that won't be ready until next year.
