I have a 2000 VW Golf with 208K and still going.
I've owned it since new and am still on the original clutch, put two sets of brake pads on it (original set lasted me 99K).
Original exhaust lasted 10+ years and 180K miles.
Original radiator lasted 11 years and 190K miles.
All in all, I have had to do VERY little to this car other than routine maintenance. Oil change with synthetic ever 7500 or so. Brake fluid flush and radiator flush every two years and that's about it.
I changed the origianl timing belt at 160K
Went well beyond anything else I've ever owned. VW has a "check and see" every 60K for the timing belt. Not a change it now at that mileage.
My wife and I love this little car to run around the city and local trips. Helps keep the mileage off our BMWs too.
Pic is of the Golf right before it turned 200K. Sorry for the crappy iPhone pic.
BTW: A buddy of mine has a 2002 Honda Civic automatic. I would shoot my brains out if I had to drive that BORING POS! It just plain sucks! It is the epitome of I don't care at all about cars or driving pleasure, I HAVE to own a car to get from point A to point B so this is what I'm stuck with.
