With my windows up I can hardly hear my turbo, but when they're down that's all I can hear. This car makes a lot of turbo noise. I do however hear my heater fan whine while I drive around. I just turn my radio up louder.
Try driving around with your climate control completely off, if the whine goes away, viola!
