Nearly everyone buys a car with at least a modicum of efficiency in mind. The simple fact is that the 8s is more efficient (and feels like it, yawn). However given the choice between the 8s 45Z that would get 3-4 mpg more and our transmission, I doubt many folks would choose the 6s, what's the benefit? At first it appeared that F30 335i's might not be as quick as N55 E90's, but now that many are through break in, that appears to be anything but true.

My guess is that if they did run out the 6s, they'd just end production of the 35i. It's only made for our market, it appears to be the only car in BMW's lineup still using this transmission and I'd guess that they'd still sell plenty of X1's if only the 28i were available. BMW will not spend much money on the E-chassis, especially the US only version.
