I agree that this certainly seems like the most reasonable explanation. But reading that sure took me by surprise. I do notice they stop short of calling this new lower-powered 2L I4 motor an N20, though I'm sure it probably is one.

Either way, adding this information to what we already know from the Z4, 1 series, and other prior information, we finally have the complete picture (or at least close to it, I imagine) of the four cylinder gasoline engine lineup.

136hp N13B16 = *16i
170hp N13B16 = *18i
184hp N20B20 = *20i
201hp N20B20 = *25i
240hp N20B20 = *28i

Obviously these are not set in stone, but this is roughly how it will probably go across all lineups. In other words, we can probably expect a 120i soon with this same new lower ouput N20 going into the X1, and we can likely expect the existing X1 sDrive18i soon to get the 170hp 1.6L motor. Of course, the outputs might not be exactly the same across models but they should be close.
