Agreed, although if you look at VW's own sister brand Audi, they seem to have little problem selling cars in the same vehicle class (in fact, often based on the same exact platform and using the same exact engine) at a premium over the VW. In fact, the Audi Q3 will join the Tiguan and X1 next year in this class and I suspect that the X1 and Q3 pricing will indeed be very similar. And, yes, I suspect the primary (and perhaps, the only) engine offering for the Q3 will be the ever-present turbocharged 4 cylinder, though quite possibly a version with a bit more power than the Tiguan.
