I have pulled a lot of loads with my X1 and Curt hitch. I have a 4x8 trailer and have towed 3300 lbs of modular retaining wall block three times without a problem, as long as they were centered on the axle. One time they were a little behind the axle and I had some sway, but that was not related to the car. I have pulled loads of stone and dirt also, each weighing 2000-3000 lbs. Easy.
I have pulled my dad's car trailer with a heavy load on it, but not a car. The trailer plus load probably weighed as much or more than a Miata and I was comfortable doing it.
If I was going to pull a car or other load that would block the X1's tail lights, I would want proper trailer lights, which I do not have.
