The battery must be registered\programming by the dealer or tech because of the charging cycle it will implement.
If it doesn't have this feature you can use any good battery that will fit and has the right amp hours.
BMW X1 does have this feature and you don't have the dealer implement this your charging cycle will burn out the battery in short order.
You can probably do it, if you have ISTA/P tool and right BMW code.
