The ND2 absolutely would have been the choice if my wife could have fit her feet and purse comfortably in it. It probably would have at least acceptable if it didn't have the dang hump in the passenger footwell.

She absolutely loved the look & style of the car and really wanted to like it (especially since this is not officially but kind of my 60th birthday present to myself).

Bottom line is my life has been much better off by having my wife happy, so this was something I was more than OK with. In fact I told her the Miata was out of the running before she had to say it. She felt so bad about it and I wanted to help unburden her from any guilt on it.
