If BMW, puts badges on its cars, it may water down what M badges mean but it is being done for profit. If an individual adds a badge, its being done for some need to communicate something to other people. I suppose some might think that if you modify the suspension of an x1 but keep it a little softer than a true M might, you could put an AMG badge on. And if you modify a real M, you could put an Mplus badge on. As far as x5m's go, what would you like owners to do...hang signs on their cars that say " this car is not a real m"? I gotta tell you, a 555 HP suv that stops on a dime, carries most any cargo and handles better than most cars, is pretty impressive. Do a mod and it goes to 650 HP. It doesnt matter whether it handles as well as an M3 on the track. It's still impressive.
