BMW should have just made an X1 M to begin with. Makes so much more sense than a X5 or X6 M.

Completely agree. Nowadays, BMW is handing out ///M Badges like popcorn. It dilutes the whole idea of the "///M",

Sad
I agree somewhat, but would point out that the actual M cars themselves are what started the dilution. You can go back and find statements by M saying "We will never make a turbo car" and many others that they now directly contradict. Add on all the M SUV's and a tuned N55/N54 being the new M motor of choice, and what you have is essentially BMW diluting the brand themselves.

This is something to think about - 10 years ago, there was a much larger gap between a car with a M badge slapped on and it's comparative real M car. Now, there is much smaller of a difference and they share the majority of the parts. M4 owners will point to the suspension and driveshaft as evidence of it being bespoke, but the reality of the situation is a 435 owner can buy a JRZ suspension setup, slap a tune and the M3 brakes on their car, and have a car that performs better around the track with the exact same throttle characteristics and sound. That just wasn't the case a decade ago, or even a few years ago.
