Really depends in which country you are in. Everything is bloody expensive here but BMW were actually the cheapest option for my X1 last year. Just done the same (winter tyres) for my Mini Cooper and again I could not get the tyre/rim package cheaper anywhere else. If you also take into account that they store the alternative set for you at no charge it becomes a no-brainer.

PS: Just for interest the Mini now wears Pirelli W190 Snowcontrols. No snow yet though, quite mild still here.
