I'm no EXPERT but it's always been my understanding that excessive front toe-in will cause equal feathering on the outside of both front tires. Toe-out will affect the inside edges. Abnormal wear to a single tire is usually attributed to too much pos. or neg. camber. Your alignment is likely off a little. Potholes and curbs will take their toll on alignment long before they damage a wheel or tire.
FWIW,
I recently had my tires balanced because of some slight shimmy. When the tech found some suspect wear he recommended an alignment. When checked, he found the following:

Even though it was tracking straight and there was no pull, it was out. All is good now.
