It's all based on CBS or condition based service. My X1 has 8,450 miles on it and it says 3,100 more miles (11,550) or 7/14 which would be 2 years. It won't let you go pass 2 years and same for brake fluid. Basically you get screwed changing the oil at 5,000 miles. Your dealer is probably going by what your car is telling him. By changing the oil at 5,000 you probably extended the change you would have got at 12,000 + to 15,000+. The Mini I traded said over 16,000 miles before it was calling for an oil change. Anybody that bought a 2013 or prior just got screwed by BMW. They don't change the oil intervals unless they are seeing some wear issues due to the turbo heat. Chances are they decided not to take the financial hit to make it retroactive and the PR nightmare admitting that the engine oil should have been changed earlier on all turbo gas engines.
