I can't imagine that it's a second faster to 60, as the F30 difference is more like half a second, or less, and that's with both cars having the same transmission. The E90 335i vs F30 335i mileage changed substantially, from 19/28 to 23/33. While that's a change in chassis, the weight didn't change much but the change to the 8s accounts for nearly all of that, with a smidge for auto start/stop.
So just the handicap of the 35i having the older, less efficient transmission is sizable. I'd guess that real world, there's less than half a second between the two X1's 0-60 and that the 28i gets five or six mpg better.
But yes, the 35i will have a better soundtrack. However both petrol motors will sound like a diesel at idle, our N54 135i makes a hideous racket at idle, the DI pump sounds just like a diesel. Speeds beyond 60 will obviously heavily favor the 35i too, but my wife lives less than two miles from her office, so the 135i has largely been wasted on her.
