I'd opt for them to repair the top of the lift gate. Have them do the body work on the gate first and as soon as it ready for finish paint, go have a look at it. If they didn't get it right, you can ask that they try again or(worse case) replace the whole gate. It doesn't appear to be anything difficult. They should be able to get it right the first time, IMO.
